Living in a building, driving on concrete, wearing the garb that society expects of us makes it difficult to remember that we are part of the natural order of life. We are nature itself. We don’t need to “get back to Nature”. We just need to remember who we are.

Everything in society that is synthetic was still made from the materials at hand. Every chemical, every fiber was created by the same brain that invented the wheel lifetimes ago.

Human processes are not separate from nature; they are a product of it.

Why is this important to realize? Because so many people feel separate from nature. And because they feel separate from nature, they may feel lost or separate from life. It is impossible to separate yourself from life as long as you must take breath into your lungs. That simple act is an intimate exchange with the trees and foliage of the planet.

The next time you feel separate from nature, know that the same sun that heats the earth is also providing nutrition to your body to keep it healthy. The same wind that sweeps across the planet is also feeding your body the oxygen it needs. The same water that fills the oceans condenses to be recycled into our drinking water.

We are still mammals. We are warm blooded creatures that have been blessed or cursed with the ability to think. That may separate us from all other mammals to a degree, but there are similarities to other mammals in addition to the differences. We all care for our young. We all provide for our families needs and we all feel the warmth of our life force coursing through our bodies in the form of blood.

It is easy to feel isolated these days and it takes a little insight to feel our connectedness to nature. Our thinking apparatus is a valuable asset to help keep us feeling involved with the cycles of nature (rather than feeling removed from them). We are all aspects of nature. Our jungle now may have more concrete in it than we would like but this is the village that we created for ourselves.

When we remember to value the intangible aspects of abundance, maybe the gratitude will keep the abundance flowing. This abundance is the purest of water, air and surroundings that our collective visualizations can manifest. Let’s remind each other the difference between a want and a need. And know that we need nature to exist and most everything else is merely a “want”.
