Beyond Reiki

Reiki energy is a wonderful Universal tool.  It is the life force collected and channeled by a facilitator to focus and channel energy.   I use the analogy of a magnifying glass collecting sunlight to heat an object. That’s my simplistic way to explain Reiki.  The facilitator is acting as the magnifying glass to direct Universal Energy.

I have met people who said that they have tried to receive Reiki and it made them too agitated.  I have my own understanding of why this happens.  The people who can’t tolerate Reiki, I believe, have too much pent up energy. They can’t handle any more. They may need stagnant energy, which is caused by old emotional issues, released from their energy field.  This is what I do for a client.  I help their body release energy blockages so that their body can receive the healing benefits of Reiki.

This is easy enough to do.  The facilitator holds their hands over the clients diaphragm and instead of channeling energy in, they draw old energy out.  I would recommend that the facilitator send the stagnant energy, through their hands, away from themselves, and into a river of light.  This is done with a visualization of the process and a simple intent.

Once the stagnant energy is released, the facilitator can close up the energy field. They can then begin the original intent of being a channel for the Reiki energy. I have found this to be a very affective way to bring ease to a body.

Was finally able to stop by and visit a little. Thank you for this post. My self-practice hasn’t been as healing as I’d hoped and I realize now that it’s probably because of a blockage. I’ll try your method for release. Thank you so much. 🙂

Hey Jen,
This is a key concept, and one that can help me tremendously in my Reiki practice. I’ve not had the experience yet of someone being too stressed to receive, at least not outwardly, but it would benefit them if I can sense this before starting.

What would be a good way for me to start, and get a sense of this kind of stress that may block the energy from getting to them?

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the thoughtful question. When you approach someone who is overstressed, it can be perceived as a subtle uneasiness in yourself. It is very beneficial to be able to separate a clients dis-ease from your own. This happens with practice. When you feel their uneasiness and can separate it from yourself then you are in a position to assist them in releasing it.

The diaphragm is where the body holds stress until it is able to process it. If you hold your receptive hands over the client’s diaphragm you may feel a ‘thickness” in the energy there. Try holding your hands over the diaphragm with a clear intent of releasing the stagnant energy. You may have a slight convulsion in your body as a cue that the energy is releasing. Also your client will begin to relax at a deeper level.

When the client has reached a certain level of relaxation, pull away and give them a moment to register the changes. After that, they will be ready to receive the benefits of the Reiki session.

I hope this helps,
