Some may think of meditation as a means to overcome having physical or emotional reactions. This may be called mind over matter. A more helpful depiction of what meditation can do is align all the different experiences that a person can have so one is not out of balance with the others.
The way an imbalance manifests is in one being too emotional or too mental. So it isn’t about putting unnecessary emphasis on the mind but to align it with the other experiences of existing.
